FUTURE Michael Jordans can now participate in weekly basketball sessions to learn and hone their skills on the courts following a recent grant from Condor Ferries.

The Condor Community Fund has provided the Guernsey Basketball Association (GBA) with donation towards training costs, court hire and kits for the Future Stars Programme, which targets local youngsters from ages six to 16. The association runs sessions every Saturday in the Sir John Loveridge Hall at Beau Séjour.

Peter Beausire, from the GBA, President of the GBA, was really pleased with the support and grateful that the Condor had been willing to help out its Future Stars Programme..

"Basketball is a fabulous sport and we want to make it accessible to all and inclusive so that as many youngsters as possible can participate. The Island Games this year really boosted our profile and popularity so we have seen a huge increase in youngsters wanting to join our weekly sessions.

‘The donation from Condor is therefore really appreciated and means we took in 120 aspiring players when our Future Stars Programme was restarted in September."

Condor’s Community Fund was established in 2019 and supports Islanders who give up their time to develop community activities. The Fund sees numerous applications from across the Islands with a focus on sustainability, local benefit and enjoyment for others.

Justin Amey, Condor’s Head of Sales and Marketing, commented,

"The applications we receive through the Fund really show there is some fabulous work being done in our community. We are therefore really pleased to support Peter and his colleagues at the GBA and hope this inspires young Islanders to take up this great sport and healthy activity."
